*PLEASE NOTE* If you are not listed, it’s because I have the organizational sense of newt!! And that’s an insult to Newts everywhere. Email me at: malena@malenateves.com and I will pair you up with someone immediately. (I’m assuming we missed a few of you.)

Also, please remember, IT’S THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS! Don’t worry about spending lots of $$ on gifts. A handwritten or handmade card is a wonderful thing! I keep all my fan letters and gifts. Each one is so special. To think that someone would put all that time and energy into something for ME is just soooo touching. Thank you everyone. Fablo and I are so blessed to be friends with all of you!

The other night, we had a few people over to the house. We played a board game called GOTH.
I gotta say, we’re all goth movie buffs and even WE couldn’t get the answers right!! Who do they make these games for anyway if not us?
Our friends Martin and Kristen came over. Martin works with Miles and Kristen is an actress. One of the best, I must say. Isn’t she a beauty?

Ohhh and I had to take a photo of this darling little 3 wheel car in Santa Barbara. Isn’t it just the girliest thing ever?

Ohhh if I wasn’t an amazon I’d buy one, but I doubt my legs would fit. Thanks to Miles shopping expertise, we found some really cute goth chic t-shirts at BLACK STAR TRADING. You can never have to many skull shirts I always say! Well, I must get going to bed. Can you believe it! It’s before 12. Am I becoming human? Scary thought. He ehee

Hot Shows and Attack Fish

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

The gigs the past few nights were hot hot hot! Not only that, but we played well in spite of it. ( Yup, my brain is GONE! ) It’s really hard to play when it is that hot, they had A/C but it can’t do much when it is 105 degrees outside. I may in fact be in love with my bandmate Paul, as he brought a small fan the second night , which he shared with me, alternating every song, and it made all the difference in the world. It might also be the nicest thing anyone has done for me. Ever. One fan can change your life. Or at least your show. ( there may be some wisdom in there somewhere, but I am too brain dead to think upon it )

One of the highlights of the weekend was meeting Allison, one of the most fairy children I have ever met, truly fey she was. She wore the cutest little gothy-fairy dress with hightop tennis shoes and I thought, that girl is GOING places! She is also a dancer. A very good ballet dancer. There weren’t many people in the club at that point, so she got up and danced for us while we played some of the prettier tunes, magic, enchanting and wonderful, made my night and reminded me, again, of why I love playing these shows so much. I am hoping that she will come back again, and bring her parents back to see us soon! ( see Allison? I told you I would post your picture! )

As far as house news goes, I have cancelled my cool kitchen table. It seems that it was going to cost $195 to ship it to my house, an hour away from the store, so I said that I would pick it up, and they told me that then , in that case ” shipping” would only be $50. Huh?????? I mentioned that it would seem that I could not come to the store and buy the table for the advertised price, and they said that it was $300 plus shipping, but I mentioned if I came and got it there would BE no shipping, and they said it was the policy. I then mentioned my policy was not to feel scammed and canceled the thing. Another will come along with someone who actually wants customers.

Malena, sweet girl, did find me this while we were looking on eBay for Pirranahs ( yes, I need a tank of Pirannahs, protection you know, women living alone and all, and less work than a dog ) and I have ordered it shipped here ( total shipping from the east coast $70 ) Isn’t it the very coolest, most wonderful coffee table EVER?????? How Malena new to Google ” coffee table fish tanks” I will never know, that girl is something else amazing, but there you have it. It will need to be a cool water tank, a heater will fog it up, so I still need one for the Pirranahs, they can go in my bedroom ( that will weed out the faint of heart, eh? )

I admit, my life is weird!

Friday, July 28th, 2006

Sometimes, I hear my conversations and think, “THIS is a bloggable moment.” I’ve had a lot of bloggable moments this week and the more I think about it, the more I realize I live a very strange life.

Miles brought home some cool stuff from the studio the other day…including highly corrosive acid.
Cool! I told him that would be MY weapon of choice if a burglar penetrated the compound! I went into great detail about how cool it would be to throw the whole bottle in bad guy’s face and watch it melt. He was a little disturbed by my strange fantasy. But, hey at least he knows I can hold my own. Between the acid and the hell boy gun, I’d be set man! (don’t we all have Laura Croft fantasies?)

Kitty is coming over today to talk photos. Wehoooo! I’m getting ready for the Alter Ego shoot. (Unfortunately this includes MORE dieting) I wonder, am I ever going to be able to eat bread again? Not as long as I work in THIS town. It’s worth it though. I love my job(s)! And Lorraine kindly reminds me, “You’re Hollywood fat. To the rest of the world, you’re sexy as hell!” Thank GOD for Fablo and her reality checks! What would I do without her?

I called the Mortician the other day. He asked what kind of casket I wanted! I asked for Black and silver or Burgundy. BIG surprise there. I always go with what I call, “The Bruise Pallet”. He’s so cool. We have to do the shoot at night(YEAH BABY)because they have REAL funerals during the day. It felt like I was planning my OWN funeral. How fun! I gotta tell ya, caskets are cushy! I don’t know why they put so much effort into making them comfortable, it’s not like the customer will notice. Which leads me to another story….

I went to the Dr. the other day for a few routine tests. First they had to warm up my feet. (Good luck) They tried and tried….even microwaved the towels. After the first try the Dr. said, “Take a look at this! The readings can’t be accurate. These results are of a dead person! Do it again” and off they went to re-do the test. After running it 3 times, I think they gave up. RESULTS: Dead, dead, dead. I didn’t have the heart to tell them why….not that they would believe me anyway. Hee hee! (This is a true story) This is an example of truth being weirder than fiction.

I’ve been working on our LaM store, with the help of Danth our web manth. We love him! Lorraine and I are trying to find products we think you’ll like. Strange, odd, eclectic things that no one ever really NEEDS, but wants just for the fun of it. Like bats head root…
…..and handmade books to put your treasures in.
..and perfume that smells like sex and chocolate. (no really!)..and of course, Graveyard dirt! No we didn’t rob the graveyard without permission. I have a special friend who helps with that sort of thing. LEGALLY of course. (Although the thought of Fablo and I in black mercenary suits sneaking around an old graveyard does sound fun.) I don’t think the tenants would mind. It would be the most flesh they’ve seen since their embalming! We’d love your input on the store. Tell us what kind of products you like, dislike and think are just plain shallow and stupid….like Paris Hilton merch. I kid I kid!

I made “Supermodel Stanzi” an outfit a few days ago. She loves to wear clothes. Although BOTH of our dogs are neutered, they still get their freak on when Stanzi wears doggie outfits. (who knew Dogs liked lingerie too?)
There IS a reason I call them PIG_DOG_BAT_FROGS!

Until next time, this is your favorite Witchy vampire chic signing off.

Hot, Music, and Houses

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

I bet Malena is very happy to be home again, with temps a breezy 119 in LA this week. I thought we had it bad at 100, but 119 sounds like the sort of temp one could BAKE things in….This is one year I am ready for it to be winter. ( and not JUST because I will have a hot tub! )

Paul and I are playing again this week at Charlie’s Pub, Friday and Saturday 7:30 to 11:30 without the added joy that was Lumberjack Days , it is air conditioned , and we tend to have a LOT of fun.

I have been working on this Wolery House this week and learning how much I don’t know about so many things every day. I bought a Fridge, Microwave and Freezer. My fridge is very tiny because I want to put another door in the kitchen and the only other place to put a fridge is rather small, but I think it will work quite well. I went and picked out carpet, for the bedroom, office and stairs and LAMinate for a wood floor in what Malena calls ” The Romance Room ” , then it was suggested the carpet was kind of pricey, so I checked another place and the carpet was the same but the LAMinate floor was way cheaper, so I started all over AGAIN, but now I think I have it. Deep Purple for the office and Deep Green for bedroom and stair’s, and a really dark LAMinate floor for ye olde Romance Room.

I found my kitchen table and chairs HERE if you want to see them. The set is called, sadly ” The BOOM BOOM ROOM…..

I have the coolest doorbell in the world, hands down, and my lovely chandelier is up. I’ll take some pics for you soon.

It is really starting to get fun now as things get painted, walls come down , and I am getting things for it. It is starting to feel like ME, a whole space where it is all ME. I am loving the choosing, arranging , conferring that is going on. When I walk in now I am feel all my stress and worries and work or whatever melt away. ( except for the part where I walked to the basement and found torrential rains tend to come IN ) It is like a surprise that keeps on coming, the good bits, the rain. Chris is coming in a couple of weeks to finish up the recording and we re going to record, due to the wonders of a portable studio, right in my dining room with the tin ceiling.

Making magic and music right in my very own house.

Doesn’t get any better than this.

Love and home, Lorraine

I’m Baaack!!!

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

Greetings LaMies! I’m finally home from traveling.
What an eventful trip Fablo and I had. I’m working on some baby LaMie gifts today.
So Fun! Thanks to Kristina and Mistress Mousey, we will be starting a LaMie gift exchange very soon. If you are already on the list and don’t want to participate, email me at:
malena@malenateves.com. Otherwise, I’ll put your name in the hat. More information to come in the newsletter. (Hopefully coming this weekend) If you aren’t signed up as a LaMie, do it now and join in the crafty fun.

Here’s a gross and disguisting tid bit for you. I’ve been feeding Cruella, my spider, mealworms. (Crickets are Kitty’s favorite, so I thought I’d spare their little lives for a while) I had no idea that mealworms turned into beetles. Big freaky ones! So, there I am cleaning the picture window in my kitchen. I took her cage and put it by the sink for a moment. Next to it was a bag of cinnamon almonds, about the same color as the beetles, which I thought couldn’t get out! So, I finished cleaning the tiles in the window and put the cage back. Then a few minutes later, I grabbed a handfun of almonds I had taken out earlier and put them in my mouth. For some reason, they tasted aweful. Bitten and sour…ewwww. Well, I’m not certain I accidentally ate a beetle but it sure tasted like I did. I was sooooooo grossed out, I drank an antire bottle of club soda in one gulp. I kept telling myself, “There’s nothing you can do about it now” so I wouldn’t puke. I ate a few more almonds out of the bag and they didn’t taste bitter at all. This made me even more certain I ate a bug. Ewwwwwwwww! Makes you skin crawl doesn’t it? Little demonic beetles. How dare they escape! Why aren’t they happy to die their painful, slow death? (I really do feel sorry for them actually)

BTW, Michael’s crafts is having a sale on Halloween stuff. They have cute little bottles and things for cheap. I bought the whole set.
Now all I need to do is fill them with potions and such.

In a few short days I will be doing another Alter Ego shoot. Kitty is the photographer. Yeah! I’ll be sexy! I’ll be sure to post a few photos for our LaMies. “See it here first! The amazing bug eating vampire! Only at the Lorraine a’ Malena circus” And a circus it is, right Lorraine?

Miles is going to burn me a disc of ALL the convergence photos. Masquerade included. I will post them on the photo page for your morbid enjoyment.

Thanks to all of you for the spooky cards and gifts. Don’t send me cinnamon almonds. I doubt I will ever eat them again. I want to save my insect eating skills for TV. Mwauuuuu ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Love you LaMies!
Malena

Gigs, Lisa Snellings and Melissa Eitheridge

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

This has been a rather long hot busy working day, so if I seem to lack my usual wit and brilliance, you know why. There are things to say however, so here it is….

First off, Paul and I , with John ” Big Sexy ” Sjogren are playing this Friday and Saturday at Charlies in Stillater. I mention this as it is not on the appearances Page, being a last minute addition. Sadly, Stilllwater is having ” Lumberjack Days” . I don’t know what they are exactly , but I think it means it may be hard to park, but we would love to see some friendly faces in the sea of chaos if you are feeling brave. Elizabeth from Dremahaven Books says she is going to try and get thru and bring me a mysterious package that arrived for me from Someone out there……..

Lisa Snellings is having a very cool sale. Here it is for one more week only and some of the proceeds are going to the CBLDF , it is never to early to think about Christmas, folks and Lisa’s art is so very magic. ( and she is a pretty fun date herself! )

( notice my new linking skills? Hope it works )

I got a chance to see Melissa Etheridge on Tuesday night. It was truly the second best concert I have ever been to . ( NOTHING will ever top ABBA , I was 13 and we got to sit in the fourth row ) Melissa is the most amazing performer I have ever seen, she gives so very much , everything she has I don’t doubt. She played for 2 hours and 41 minutes! Never stopped for a moment. ( I have played close to two hours without a break in concert, and let me tell you, it is WORK ) Kitty told me when I mentioned I was going to the concert that someone had said to her, about Melissa, ” If you need healing, she will heal you”

Yes, she does. Her music is everything that music should be , and as magic as music is at it’s best, but it is the things she says in between songs that made my heart melt, my fears go away , and made me believe that anything is possible, at any moment. Or maybe reminded me of that. And of how very precious life and love really are. It’s hard to put into words what a wonderful experience seeing her was. It’s funny, I was reading in her blog that some of the critics were saying they liked the music, but she talked to much. Weren’t they listening to what she had to say???? I need to write her and tell her, don’t stop talking, I can’t be the only one you have healed.

Go and see her , if you can, if she is coming your way. You will be glad you did.

I think I will leave you with some pictures of the very, very coolest housewarming present a Boss could ever give his Assistant.

Love, Music and Magic, Lorraine

One Night in Boston

Monday, July 17th, 2006

Here are a few photos from our Boston Trip. I’ll post more when I return to LA.

Wolery House

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

Here we have photos of House, which my Boss thinks ought to be called ” Wolery” ( and who remembers where that comes from???? )

First off here the bathe, with a lovely live plant arrangement done by our Malena, and some candles on my stove, also done by the Queen of Crafts….

And then my find of the year, some sort of Spanish chandeleire, I have always wanted crystal hanging things…..

And the soon to be kind of retro kitchen….

And now, continuing our tour, we have my really horrid porch, which is soon to be coming down and getting itself re-built. Best thing that could happen to it.

And then we come to the very special TWO doors on the front porch, so one can enter the living room OR the dinning room ( which are connected, go figure. )We can fine no evidence that this was ever a duplex, but there you have it.

And finally, Wolery House as a whole…..

I did find the Ice-pack Headphone shots of Malena and some lovely ones of us with Chris Ewen, but this seems to be a house oriented post, so we will leave things there and let Malena pick out the ones we want to post. I am having great fun, and the destruction will soon be done! Tomorrow I pick out more paint, and go look at hot tubs! ( someday I will get photos and text together correctly on Blogger, WHY does the preview bear no resemblance to what gets published??? )

Love and homes,
Lorraine

CONvergence Photos 4 U baby!

Thursday, July 13th, 2006

Yeah! I found a way to download my photos before I got home.
Here’s a few to tie you over.

Happy LaM!!

Here’s a photo of me and Mr. Gorgeous. As you can see, he’s happy to see me!

Connie’s Space Lounge is my favorite place to hang out.
Here’s Lorraine going through the space tunnel. She looked beautiful in her snowflake outfit.

Here’s Jonny Hardcore and Me doing the vogue pose. With a name like that, how could we be tame?

After the Sunday night show, we took some photos with our friends. Here’s the LaMie Boys.
…and the LaMie girls.

The most surprising of all fans was a cute little man who spotted us on our way out the door. (Yes, he really did bite my neck) TWICE! I thought that was my job!

And we are back….

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

Hello again! We have missed you! Now, where exactly did we leave things???? Ah, leaving Boston and going to CONvergence…

The concert on Friday was wonderful, despite the fact that we were brain dead Zombies, had never done a show with Paul before, and only learned many of the songs in the hour before the show, we had a great time and the crowd seemed well pleased with things. We played for an hour and a half, and got to do Richard Thompsom’s Dimming of the Day, one of our favourate songs ever. Black Horse and the Cherry Tree ended the night, and it doesn’t get any hotter than that.

Sunday’s concert with Adam was magic as well. We played close to two hours and Malena went WILD WILD WILD!!!!!! I’ll let her describe it in detail, but I am here to say there has NEVER EVER been anything that hot on stage , anywhere in the world, EVER!!!!!!!! When she turns it on, she turns it ON! We did Adam and Eve live for the first time, and Casablanca Moon and oh gods, I will leave it to those who were there to remind me of what the heck else went on. I do remember Adam and Malena going so far off into the Zone of Left Feild that I had to hold my head and leave the stage, who would think I would ever be the straight man in this act??????

We didn’t play Saturday but had a great time going around to parties with Bill and the Hot BirdChick, Hans, ( Sherpa the Bodygaurd ), Jody the Sexy Librarian, her friends the baby doctor and equaly sexty librarian, Laura ( not only HOT HOT HOT but extreemly cool artist ) Paul ( yeah you rock ) Score , and most likely more people I am forgetting , and oh yes Miles Teves, whom Malena calls Mr Gorgoeus , who was the artist Guest of Honor……Big thumbs up for the Space Lounge!!!!! If anything proves I have learned wisdom in my life it would be proof of it that when asked the question ” Would you like some Sour Apple Flavoured Vodka mixed with Kool air and Pixi Sticks ” I said , uh, no , thank you tho……

Many many thanks to Tim Wick, Jody, Matt the Sound Guy from GOD, and Windy for a WONDERFUL Con. You made us feel SO SO SO loved!!!!!

Malena and I have spent the time since the Con working on House, and let me tell you , the women doesn’t mess around! Yesterday we shopped for six hours and then came home and did crafts until three in the morning. We made soap , decorated towels, painted glasses, beaded lampshades… Malena then, little Witchy that she is, made candle arrangements, and two HUGE live plant arrangements on pedestal things for my bathroom. I had to talk her out of buying a WaterGarden Kit and lanscaping the yard, kid you not! Pictures SOON, promise!

One thing I have decided about house is that I really really need lightswitch and electricial outlet covers. I have one outlet that has a really lovely Victorian looking cover plate and I thought , I want every switch and outlet in the house to have a really cool cover, every one diffferent, but really cool. I think that would make my little nest perfect. There are a LOT of outlets and switches so if anyone knows where to get such cool things, I am now collecting them and replaceing them as I aquire them.

( also any artistic person who comes over has to paint me a glass, I bought a huge set and the paints, so be warned! Laura, you are first! )

Ye gads, what else? How do you sum up the last ten days in a few easy lines, while of course, worn out , tired and head still whirling from it all???? I want to talk more about the recording with Chris Ewen, but I think I will save that for a bit, until my head comes down from the clouds. What a perfect time it has been, recording, performing and working on House with my best friend.

It , quite simply, doesn’t get any better than this. Ever.

Love, magic and lightswitch covers,
Lorraine
