Ladyhawk and Nocturna

Monday, April 24th, 2006

Mwuuuaaaa ha ha ha!! I can be persuasive. Oh yes, my LaMie friends, Malena got off with just a brace. I told the Dr. about all our performances. I reminded him a little pain is worth being able to wear my japanese drag queeen coat. Trust me on this. So, he said to come back in a week and to be “gentle” on my wrist. Guess doing the tango is out, hiking in the park is out. Singing and practicing are in though. .Resting…. Hmmm, we’ll see how that goes. Hey! The brace will inspire many new wristband designs for my Alter Ego Fashion Line. I’ll have Miles paint it for me. I told my daughter it
was my “Laura Croft Superhero Laser shooting power glove.” I’ve got the moves baby. Poor Lorraine has had to watch me dance around the house only to hobble to bed…not remembering I’ve got 2 broken bones. All together now, Sing it! Ain’t nothin gonna hold me down, oh no I gotta keep on moven..” Needless to say I’m feeling better. The above photo was taken in the parking lot of the Dr.’s office. Snazzy, Silly, Sickly? Maybe just a little. We’re having a blast…Now back to you Fablo!!

Hmmmm, me eh? It MIGHT be kind of late for poor Ladyhawk who has had her first expierence drving around LA these days A Little different than I am used to but I seem to be adapting well. Malena is singing to now, she practices more than anyone I know, with the possible exception of Mr Paul Score. That guy is ALWAYS playing, we are so going to have some fun in a few weeks!

( sooner if you live in Minneapolis…Tho I can’t for the life of me remember when next I play, LA does that to you. )

Ok, Malena is singing some more, and I want nothing more than to listen to this and drift off to sleep when I can no longer keep my little eyes open. Hey, I bought 5 pairs of shoes today, ACCIDENTALY!!!!!

And drove the LA freeways, all in a very good cause. Thanks be all will be well,

Love and splints,
Lorraine a’ Malena

Not such good news….

Friday, April 21st, 2006

Yesterday while Malena was teaching her acting class, a child attempted to do a Fall backwards, despite Malena telling her what a Bad Idea this was. Malena managed to save the child from harm, largly, I believe by getting herself underneath, but in the process broke her arm and tailbone.

They can’t do much about the tailbone, apparently, and they are going to take another look at her arm on Monday. The swelling was to much yesterday for them to consider casting it, and it may be broke in more than one place.

( Malena, ever the Fashion Diva , says she is going to paint the cast black and put sequins on it for BaltiCon. )

She is in a lot of pain and has a special sling for the weekend, but she won’t be online much at all. Fortunately, I am going out there tomorrow and can help with things like, driving, cooking and any other darn thing she needs. If you want to write to her, or comment, send them to me and I will make sure she sees things.

I will keep everyone posted on how she is doing and what is going on with the poor arm.

In a related story, Johnny ” Big Sexy” Sjogren called me this morning to say he was doing fine after his motorcycle accident, and other than a concussion and broken hand, was fine. Apparently, he says, they told him he hit a mini van.

NOONE ELSE GETS TO BREAK ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For at least 48 hours, I have way to much to do!

Stay well, all of you!

Love and bones,
Lorraine

Spiders in the Night

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

Our fabulous Spring has come to an end, just in time for my boss to come home, gone are the 70’s, gone is the sunshine, all gone, back to cold and grey. Sigh. Well I got the peas, spinach and onions planted, they are just going to have to take their chances. The tomatoes are better off, being yet in little pots indoors. For myself, I am off to LA on Saturday for a week of plotting, planning and practice with Malena.

It looks as tho Mr Paul Score, my bandmate from Paul and Lorraine’s amazing un-named band will be coming to Balti Con as well, hurrah! Yes, I will make him bring his guitar, and we will have some fun! He is attending a genetics conference the following weekend in the same area and decided he wanted to be in on the fun. ( not that geneticists don’t have fun, I surely would not know, but I am sure they do )

Not much else going on, I have spent the day making sure all the little details are in place for my boss, talking with Malena and researching what to do if a Really Big Spider escapes from it’s cage in the night, crawls into ones bed and bites you.

No special reason.

Love and Spiders in the Night,

Spiderific LaMie Loven’

Monday, April 17th, 2006

I wanted to show all of you the darling package of spiders Kristina Gray sent us. She made all these little guys for us. I put them on my dresser and just kept looking at them. A few days later I wore them to a script reading. Haven’t taken them off since. All my friends keep saying, “Yes, you told us the whole story like, 10 times!”
Hee hee. What can I say, I’m proud of my LaMies and all their talents!!!

Lorraine and I are so touched when we get your letters and gifts. We are so blessed to have such talented, genuine fans/friends. I don’t know which I am more excited for..to sing at Balticon or to meet all of you. Thank goodness we get to do both.

It makes my little heart soar to get your comments on the blog and the forum. I find myself spending more time on LaMie stuff than anything else. It’s been such a treat to buy the CON merch. Lorraine, Kitty and I went shopping to find lots of LaMie stuff. It was like shopping for stocking stuffers for my kids. I feel like I know all of you. Sometimes, I write things that I read later and say, “Wow! That was personal” but it’s easy to do that with such wonderful fans. We are part of each other now. Like a little family of bats…

Speaking of nocturnal creatures…I’ve almost got Miles convinced to let me have a tarantula again. (I had a HUGE one a few years ago but it died) Of course, Lorraine asked WHERE “it” would live. I calmly reminded her, “In the front office of course”
Not everyone sees spiders as “teddy bears with 8 legs” like I do. I’ll just get a baby one. My last spider grew to be as big as my hand. Poor Miles will faint.

Anyway, I just wanted to take a moment and THANK each and every one of you for all the love and sunshine you share with Fablo and me. And for all you newbies…WELCOME TO THE CLUB!

Malena goes to the Magic Castle

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

Yesterday was suprisingly beautiful. On our way downtown, we saw a rainbow. Spring, I mean summer is here in Hollywierd. My Japanese Iris finally bloomed (after 2 YEARS of waiting) They are 5 feet tall already.

The night before none of the petals were open, then yesterday morning..BAM! Two flowers in full bloom. Nature is amazing.

Last night, we went to the Magic Castle.

They have a strict dress code. Men have to wear a TIE! In LA! Can you believe it? Sadly, Kurt Cobain died BUT his grunge style did not…It STILL plagues the city. Miles, being the sexy casual artist type, did not like wearing a stuffy tie. (He looked sexy as hell though)
So, we pull up to the valet and I see (once again) that I am WAY WAY WAY over dressed. I guess black tie means different things to different people. Now, Drag Queens..they know how to dress. I wore this velvet dress with a feather neckline and cuffs that Lorraine bought me. And of course, my funeral hat. So there I was in all my goth girl splendor, only to find out we were not allowed to take pictures. Ah! The horror. (Miles took this when we got home)

Luckily my three friends; Lourdes, Beth, and Christina were vamped out and ready to party. Everyone at our table was “Art Dept” so Gothic fashion and tattoos ruled. Except for Miles, who doesn’t need to wear anything specific to be a freak. As he says, “we were born strange.” Nothing could be closer to the truth.

The magic was quite good, and very funny. (The drunk lady behind us who sounded like a mixture of a cackling hen and Fran Drescher was also VERY entertaining.) Hey, I found some RICH material for my acting class that’s for sure. My favorite magician was Kerry Pollock. He was really funny and didn’t take his job too seriously. The funniest part of the evening was when a customer came up and ask me if I was “the tarot lady”. Ha ha! What was I to say? I decided to go the easy route and said, “Oh, thank you but NO. I’m just eating here” I don’t know which is funnier, that or the lady who was startled when I moved and said, “Oh I thought you were a mannequin.” Believe it or not, that is not the first time someone has said that to me. Hey, I’ll take both of those compliments home with me honey!

Ok, back to work on the Malena Collection. I’m working on all kinds of wristbands, and school girl skirts. Alter Ego says the samples will be ready by June. Yeah! AND, you will be able to order my designs right off my malenacollection.com website. Ohhhh I feel a fashion show coming on! I’ll be putting out an ad for Goth models very soon.
(AND not just skinny ones!)
With Magic Wands and Tarot Cards,

Malena

Saturday Morning Fun

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

We need Malena to wake up and tell us about this Magic Castle Event! ( the waking is not an event that is likely to occur soon, it’s only NOON out there, she says, lonely for her friend, it’s like living with Ladyhawk pre-curse removal )

For myself, good gig last night, not many people , but the ones who were there were wonderful and for some reason , my playing was really hot, lit that fiddle on FIRE!. Looking forward to tonight, but it is harder when there are not so many people, I need the energy! I am going to wear my hair in ponytails, at the request of one of the waitstaff, who would want to miss that????

Don’t people go out on Easter weekend?

Woke up today with 6 new messages from people out at Mini Con, in Minneapolis, all with Harlan Ellison stories, very fun, including one from a group of four mad Englishmen I had never thought to hear from again, who are over to see Harlan. Blast from the past! Maybe our Sexy Libraian will come online soon and give us the scoop on the Mini Con fun? Wish I was there!

As for the rest of this day, it is truly wonderful for one thing in particular. I woke up early and realized that I did not have to DO anything for some few hours. Of course, there are things that need doing, as ever, but no one wanted me for anything, the e-mails could wait, in fact everything could wait, and not being one to let oppurtunity slide, I made juice and tea, opened all the windows, lit a candle and crawled back in bed , in the sunshine , with a completely trashy no intellectual features whatsoever novel, while the sauna heated, and had the most lovely relaxing time of it. Even the birds were singing folks.

Now I am back at work and contemplating planting peas before going off to the gig.

Hope your days are as lovely,

Love and relaxation,
Lorraine

My Taxes Are Done!

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

My taxes are done! My taxes are done! Oh hurrah and celebrations! I have no idea WHY they are so very traumatic for me, it’s not like they are hard, I take my bits to Tom the Tax Man and he does some things on a computer and the whole thing takes maybe 30 minutes and then I am out of there, but I truly dread tax time every year.

This is a little picture of how I feel after doing taxes, hee-hee, tho it is actually a picture our Malena took of my last time I visited, since I fall asleep about 8 hours before SHE is ready to retire, tho women can sew an entire dress whilst I snore away, THIS is the real me folks! Tho most days my hair isn’t so good, gods I am funny after taxes!

Thanks everyone who came down to the club last night, it was really cool of you to be there, I know it’s out of the way, and uh, strange and not one of our usual haunts, but Bedlam truly did appreciate it. I hope it works out for them , I’d love to come back again.

Paul and I have been MOVED this weekend, we are now playing at the Liffy in St Paul, from 9-1 , we will not be at Charlies, sadly. I am not sure WHY we have been moved, but the Liffy will be fun too, hope to see you there!

Ten more days and then I get some time again for things like blogging and chatting and e-mails that don’t include the sentence ” No, I am sorry he can’t” . LA , I am coming back! Tho Malena and I aren’t much for sitting around eating bon-bons ( WHO does that??? Is that a life I missed somehow? And just what IS a Bon-bon??? ) and we have lots of fun planned, and surely there will be time for a chat in our new chat room.

Death , Love and Taxes,
Lorraine

Leprechauns and Such

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

Ye gads what a week, I have missed you all! I wish I had some fine and interesting tales of magic and wonder for you, but it’s all been work , work, work and gigs on top of that. Paul and I have been having a fine time playing at Charlie’s Pub. Not sure HOW it happened, but currently our name seems to be ” Living on the Edge With the Leprechauns” Hmmm, you give and audience enough whiskey and just see what they come up with….

I actually kind of like it. That or ” The Leprechaun Band” They are both just silly enough, we didn’t want anything stupid , like the over the top Celtic-new age thing, no Comac’s Dream or Morrigan Fey or, gads, people were coming up with lots of weirder, playing in a pub duo is a lot of fun, and that’s what it ought to be, one can’t take it too seriously. I think we are doing a full on live CD this summer as well, which we are going to call, in yet another creative whimsical moment ” Live at Charlie’s “

( oh, and in response to Malena’s comment about the Unicorn Song, of course I will play it for the Children’s Time at Balti-con, but in a pub it is going to COST you! I have my pride…. )

Malena and Kitty I see have been the merch Queens these days! And the chat room, as soon as I figure that out , that will be some fun. I can’t wait to do another big chat with Malena and I on the webcams. I think I am back out there after the 22nd.

Someone had asked about making Indian food faster, and I have a couple of tips. Buy a copy of ” Indian restaurant Cooking at Home ” they have a recipe for Curry Sauce where you make a huge pot of the basic sauce and then freeze it on one cup portions, it can they be used for many different things, tho they all end up tasting differently, it’s easy tho just to grab a bag out of the freezer and cook with that. The other tip is make a lot. It really doesn’t take so very long, and it tends to be better the next day.

On the make-up talks I don’t have much, hee-hee, that’s Malena’s area. She did get me to start wearing the Bare Essensials things, which I do for gigs, but I can’t woo-woo like she can! Anytime you see a really great photo of me wearing Stunning make-up, that would be her magic. I would say too if I was six foot tall and could I would be wearing the long gowns and glamorous things that she does and perhaps not the little school girl skirts, tho I do like them, just got a great grey plaid one with skulls on it. I am short. Short legs. ( and I like ponytails, says rainbow bright! )

Ok, that’s it for this working girl, way to much to do here in the North today. My seeds came from Tomato Bob’s. ( best heirloom seeds going, google them for the website ) and I am going to plant the tomatoes of Doom today . Paul and I are at Charlie’s this weekend , if you are in town, and next Wednesday , I am at a new Pub in St Paul with Bedlam, more info on that as soon as Big Sexy gets it to me!

Love , Leprechauns and tomatoes,
Lorraine
